The Lion
More than 10,000 years ago, lions thrived from North and South America to Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Today, due to climatic changes, centuries of hunting and habitat degradation, the majority of lions live in scattered habitats across Africa. These animals are listed as vulnerable on the World Conservation Union's (IUCN's) Red List of Threatened Animals.
With number totalling a mere 300, the Asiatic Lions are found only in the The Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary in Northwest India
and are listed on the CITES endangered species list. |
